Sumo Push strips wrestling down to one contest of will: hold the button and push. Whoever forces the other out of the ring wins the round, and the match runs over several rounds. There is nothing to learn and everything to fight for, which is exactly what a good playground game should be.
What keeps it from being a pure endurance test is the pacing. Pushing constantly drains you, so there is a rhythm to when you commit and when you hold ground. Two players next to each other quickly work out that timing matters, even in a game that appears to have none.
Push in bursts rather than holding constantly. Continuous pressure wears you down, and a fresh burst against a tiring opponent moves the ring position far more than the same effort spread evenly.
Time your big push for when they are recovering. If your opponent has just spent a long effort, that is the moment their resistance is lowest, and a committed shove then is worth several ordinary ones.
Do not panic when you are near the edge. Being pushed back is not losing, and a defensive hold while your opponent tires is often the setup for driving them all the way across.
Play it as a series. Rounds are very short, so a single result means little. Best of five is where the rhythm and the tiredness actually start to matter.
By pushing your opponent out of the ring.
No. Sustained pushing tires you, so bursts timed against your opponent's recovery work better.
Yes, sharing one device with a button each.
Several short rounds, so a match takes a minute or two.
