Dice Zero is a race where greed is the enemy. Each roll adds to your turn score, but roll a one and the whole turn evaporates. Bank what you have and it is safe forever; roll again and you are risking everything you have built this turn for a few more points.
The tension is beautifully balanced. A one comes up on average every six rolls, so a long run feels increasingly lucky and increasingly fragile at the same time. Watching a big turn score vanish is genuinely painful, which is exactly why the game works.
Tips & strategy
Bank sooner than feels right. The instinct is to keep rolling while things are going well, but the risk is constant and the expected value of another roll turns negative once your turn score is reasonably large. Banking early and often wins races.
Change your approach when you are behind. Safe play only works if it keeps you competitive. If your opponent is close to winning, small banked totals will not catch them and taking real risks becomes the correct choice.
Bank immediately when you have enough to win. There is no bonus for a spectacular final turn, so once your total plus your turn score reaches the target, stop.
Do not read patterns into the dice. A run without a one does not mean one is overdue, and a recent one does not mean you are safe. Every roll carries exactly the same risk.
Questions
What happens when I roll a one?
Your whole turn score is lost and play passes on. Anything you have already banked is safe.
When should I bank?
Earlier than instinct suggests. Once a turn score is substantial, the risk of losing it outweighs the small expected gain.
Is this the same as Dice Duel?
It is the same family of push-your-luck game with a slightly different scoring structure.
Is it purely luck?
The dice are random, but the banking decisions are genuinely strategic and decide most games.
