Dice Poker gives you five dice, three rolls per turn, and a scorecard full of categories to fill. After each roll you decide which dice to keep and which to throw again, then commit the result to one of the categories. Every category can be used only once, so the whole game is about matching your luck to the slot that suits it best.
It is the classic push-your-luck design. Chasing a big category like five of a kind can pay off spectacularly or leave you dumping a wasted turn into the zero column. Knowing when to settle for a solid score and when to gamble on one more roll is the skill hiding under all that randomness.
Chase the upper-section bonus early. Filling the number categories generously enough to hit the bonus is worth a large lump of points, and it is far easier to do in the first half of the game while those slots are still open.
Do not waste a good roll on a small category. Three sixes scored in the sixes box is decent, but the same roll in three of a kind may be worth far more depending on the other dice. Check every open slot before committing.
Know when to abandon a chase. If two rolls have not brought you near a straight, take the points that are actually in front of you rather than throwing the third roll away. A modest score beats a zero.
Keep a dump category in reserve. Leaving chance, or a low number slot, open until late gives you somewhere to put a genuinely terrible roll without sacrificing a valuable category.
Three per turn. After the first, you can hold any dice you like and reroll the rest.
