Tents and Trees gives you a grid dotted with trees and numbers along the edges. Every tree needs exactly one tent pitched directly beside it, no two tents may touch even at a corner, and the numbers say how many tents belong in each row and column.
The no-touching rule is what makes it a real deduction puzzle. A tree with several free neighbours looks open until you notice that a tent in one of those cells would block the only option for the tree next door, and following those interactions is where the puzzle lives.
Start with rows and columns whose count is zero. Everything in them is empty, and marking that off immediately narrows the options for every tree that borders them.
Look for trees with only one free neighbour. A tree hemmed in on three sides has no choice, and each forced tent rules out its surrounding cells for everyone else.
Use the counts as a ceiling. When a row already has its full number of tents, every other cell in it is empty, which often forces neighbouring trees into a single position.
Remember tents cannot touch diagonally. This is the rule people forget, and it eliminates far more cells than the orthogonal rule alone.
Exactly one, placed directly above, below, left or right of it.
No, not even diagonally, which is the main source of deductions in this puzzle.
How many tents belong in that row or column.
Yes, each is built by placing valid tent and tree pairs first and reading the counts off them.
