Bridges, known in Japan as Hashiwokakero, gives you islands marked with numbers. Join them with bridges until every island has exactly as many bridge ends as its number says. Bridges run straight, never diagonally, at most two between any pair, and they may never cross.
It is a deduction puzzle rather than a construction one. The numbers constrain each other, so the opening moves come from islands whose count leaves no choice at all: an island marked with the maximum for its position can only be satisfied one way, and everything else follows from there.
Start with the islands that have no choice. An island needing four bridges with only two neighbours must have a double bridge to each, and those forced connections are the foothold for the whole puzzle.
Watch for islands that would be cut off. Every island must end up connected to the rest, so a bridge that would seal off a small group from the others is wrong even if the numbers appear to work.
Use crossings as constraints. Because bridges cannot cross, building one rules out every crossing possibility, which often forces a neighbouring island into a single solution.
Count what is left, not what is placed. Tracking how many more bridges each island still needs is far more useful than looking at what you have already built.
