Spider Solitaire deals ten columns from two decks and asks you to build descending runs from king down to ace. Complete a full run and it lifts off the table. Clear all eight and you have won. This is the one-suit version, which keeps the shape of the game while making it genuinely learnable.
What makes Spider distinctive is the cost of breaking a sequence. You can move a run onto a lower card freely, but every time you split one to reach a card underneath, you create work you will have to undo later. The whole game is a negotiation between what you need now and the mess you are making.
Empty a column as early as you can. A space in Spider is enormously powerful because it can hold any run temporarily, and the first one usually decides whether the game is winnable.
Turn face-down cards over before anything else. Hidden cards are the real obstacle, and a move that reveals one is almost always better than a tidier-looking move that does not.
Think before dealing from the stock. A new row lands on every column regardless of how neat they are, and dealing onto a well-built board can bury a sequence you spent ten moves assembling.
Build long runs rather than many short ones. A single sequence from king down is worth more than three tidy fragments, because only a complete run leaves the table.
It keeps the rules and the difficulty approachable while preserving what makes Spider interesting. Multi-suit versions are considerably harder.
