Okey is the tile game played in every Turkish coffee house, and it belongs to the same family as Rummikub and rummy itself. You hold a rack of numbered tiles in four colours, and you draw and discard until your whole hand forms valid sets and runs.
A set is three or four tiles of the same number in different colours; a run is three or more consecutive numbers in one colour. What makes Okey distinctive is the joker system: an indicator tile is turned at the start, and the tile one higher becomes a wild joker for that round, which changes the value of your hand the moment it is revealed.
Sort your rack constantly. Okey hands are hard to read as a jumble, and rearranging tiles into colour groups and number sequences reveals combinations you would otherwise miss entirely.
Keep tiles that work two ways. A tile that could join either a run or a set has far more value than one locked into a single possibility, so when discarding, let go of the tile with the fewest futures.
Watch what the bots discard. A tile thrown away tells you something about what that player is not collecting, and a tile they take from the discard pile tells you a great deal about what they are.
Do not hold a broken run too long. Waiting for one specific tile in the middle of a sequence is the most common way hands stall, and breaking it up for a more flexible combination usually finishes faster.
