About this game

Letter Rain drops letters from the top of the screen and asks you to type each one before it lands. Miss too many and the game ends. It is simple, relentless, and it does something no typing tutorial manages: it makes drilling key positions feel urgent.

The skill it builds is the one that matters most for typing speed, which is knowing where a key is without looking. Because letters arrive in random order rather than in words, there is no rhythm to hide behind, and every keystroke is a genuine test of whether you know that key's location.

Tips & strategy

Do not look at the keyboard. Glancing down costs more time than the keystroke itself, and it prevents your fingers from ever learning the positions, which is the entire point of the exercise.

Keep your fingers on the home row. Returning to the same resting position after every keystroke gives you a reference point, and it is the foundation of all touch typing.

Deal with the lowest letter first. It is closest to landing, while one that just appeared has plenty of time. Reacting to whatever caught your eye rather than what is most urgent is the usual reason runs end.

Stay calm as it speeds up. Panic makes accuracy collapse, and mistyped letters cost you the time to correct as well as the letter you missed.

Questions

Do I need a keyboard?

It works best with one, but there is an on-screen keyboard for phones and tablets.

What ends the game?

Letting too many letters reach the ground.

Does this actually help my typing?

Yes. Learning key positions without looking is the foundation of typing speed, and random letters test that directly.

Does it speed up?

Yes, steadily, which is what makes it a real test.

Is it really free?

Completely free, with no trial and no unlock. Letter Rain loads with the page and plays immediately, without an install step or a video ad first.
