It captures something real about striking a football. Power comes from timing rather than effort, and a well-timed contact with a relaxed swing travels further than a desperate lunge. The narrow window here is a fair approximation of how small that margin actually is.
Wait longer than feels comfortable. The most common mistake is swinging as soon as the ball approaches, when the scoring window is a fraction later. Letting it arrive properly produces a much cleaner strike.
Watch the ball, not the goal. Where you are aiming matters far less than whether you make contact well, and looking up early is exactly what causes a mistimed swing.
Learn the rhythm across attempts. The approach speed is consistent, so after a few tries you can feel when the moment arrives rather than watching for it, which is noticeably more reliable.
Stay calm after a miss. Missing tempts players into swinging even earlier on the next attempt, which makes things worse. Reset to the same patient timing each time.
