About this game

Boggle fills a four by four grid with letters and asks you to find words by tracing a path through touching squares. Letters can join horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and no square may be used twice in the same word.

The path rule is what separates Boggle from every other letter game. A word is not just a set of letters you can see, it is a route through the grid, so two adjacent letters that never touch might as well be on different boards.

Tips & strategy

Look for pairs that sit together. Common two-letter openings like ST, CH, TH and BR are the seeds of most words, and finding them adjacent immediately suggests what to build.

Trace with your eyes before your finger. Working out the whole route first avoids stepping into a dead end halfway through a word you can see but cannot reach.

Remember diagonals count. Beginners scan only horizontally and vertically, and the diagonal connections are where a large share of the words hide.

Work outward from the vowels. Every word needs one, so starting at a vowel and checking what touches it is more systematic than scanning at random.

Questions

How do letters connect?

Horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Any two touching squares can join.

Can I use a square twice?

Not within the same word, though it can appear in different words.

What is the minimum length?

Four letters.

Is there always a word to find?

Yes. Each grid is built around a real word laid along a valid path.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Boggle runs entirely inside this page, so it starts the moment the page opens. There is nothing to download, no plugin, and no account to create.
