About this game

Rocket Landing is a descendant of Lunar Lander, one of the oldest video games there is. Gravity pulls you down, your thruster pushes you up, and you have a finite tank. Touch down on the pad slowly enough and you have landed; arrive too fast and you have crashed.

What makes it endure is that it is a genuine physics problem rather than a reflex test. Momentum is the enemy: by the time you can see you are falling too fast, you may already lack the fuel to stop. Good landings are planned from high up, not saved at the last second.

Tips & strategy

Kill your horizontal speed early. Arriving above the pad moving sideways means spending fuel on steering when you need it for braking, so line yourself up while you still have altitude.

Brake gradually rather than at the last moment. A long gentle burn uses less fuel than a desperate full-power burn near the ground, and by the time you are close, physics may already have decided the outcome.

Watch the speed readout, not the ground. The number tells you whether you will survive the touchdown well before it looks obvious visually.

Do not over-brake high up. Coming to a near stop at altitude wastes fuel you will need lower down, and then you fall the rest of the way with an empty tank.

Questions

What counts as a successful landing?

Touching down on the pad below the safe speed. Anything faster destroys the rocket.

What happens when I run out of fuel?

You can no longer slow down, so gravity takes over completely.

Why is it so hard to stop?

Momentum. Slowing a falling rocket takes time and fuel, so corrections have to start long before they look necessary.

Is this based on a real game?

It follows Lunar Lander, an arcade classic from the 1970s built on the same physics.

Do I have to sign up to play?

Completely free, with no trial and no unlock. Rocket Landing loads with the page and plays immediately, without an install step or a video ad first.
