About this game

Box Push is the warehouse puzzle known worldwide as Sokoban. You walk around a cramped floor plan pushing crates onto marked targets. You can only push, never pull, and only one crate at a time. Those two restrictions turn a simple-looking task into one of the most demanding logic puzzles ever designed.

The cruelty and the beauty are the same thing: a single wrong push can make a level impossible without you noticing for another twenty moves. Shove a crate into a corner and it is stuck there forever. Every move has to be considered not for what it achieves now but for what it forecloses later.

Tips & strategy

Never push a crate into a corner unless a target is there. A crate in a corner can never be moved again, because you cannot pull and you cannot get behind it. Recognising dead squares before you push is the core skill of this puzzle.

Be careful with crates against walls too. A crate pushed flat against a wall can only slide along that wall, so if there is no target on that wall, it is as good as lost. Check the wall line before committing to the push.

Work out the order of crates before you move anything. Often one crate must reach its target last because it blocks the path you need for the others. Solving the sequence on paper, or in your head, saves far more time than trial and error.

Think about where you need to stand. Because you push rather than pull, reaching the far side of a crate may require a long detour, and sometimes that route is blocked by another crate you have already placed. Plan your own path as carefully as the crates'.

Questions

Can I pull crates?

No, only push. That single restriction is what makes the puzzle hard.

What if I get stuck?

Restart the level. A crate pushed into a corner or a bad wall position cannot be recovered.

Can I push two crates at once?

No. If there is a crate directly behind the one you are pushing, neither will move.

How do I complete a level?

Every crate must end up on a marked target square.

Do I have to sign up to play?

No sign-up, no email, no account. Open the page and Box Push is ready to play straight away, on a phone or a desktop.
