Four ball billiards is the carom game played across much of East Asia, and it is deceptively strict. Two red balls, two cue balls, and you score by striking both reds with your own ball. Touch your opponent's cue ball on the way and the point is lost, which turns every shot into a route-planning problem.
That penalty is what gives the game its character. In three ball you simply need two contacts; here you need the right two contacts while avoiding a third. The result is a game where the line you take matters as much as the balls you hit, and where a beautiful-looking shot can score nothing at all.
Map the route before you strike. You need both reds and neither the opponent ball, so trace the cue ball's likely path in your head and check what sits along it. The obvious line is often the one that clips the wrong ball.
Keep the reds close together. When the two red balls end up near each other, scoring becomes far easier because a single well-placed shot can reach both. Gathering them is a real tactic, not an accident.
Soft shots gather, hard shots scatter. Because you want the balls to stay in a useful cluster, controlled pace keeps your next shot alive while a firm strike sends everything to opposite ends of the table.
Use the rails to change your angle of approach. When a direct route would run into the opponent ball, coming off a cushion first can bring you onto the reds from a completely safe direction.
By striking both red balls with your own cue ball in a single shot.
The shot does not score, which is what makes route planning so important.
The white one. Your opponent plays the yellow.
Yes, so runs of several points are possible from a good position.
Nothing at all. The whole of 4 Ball Billiards is built into the page itself, which is why there is no loading bar and no waiting before you can play.
