Long Jump gives you a runway and one decision. Tap rapidly to build speed down the track, then jump at exactly the right moment as you reach the take-off line. Too early and you waste the run-up; too late and the jump is void. Distance depends on both the speed you carried and the moment you left the ground.
It captures the actual tension of the event. Real long jumpers spend years working on the approach precisely because a foul at the board wastes a perfect jump, and the trade-off between maximum speed and hitting the mark exactly is the whole discipline.
Build speed early in the run-up. Acceleration takes distance, so a fast start gives you more of the track at top speed. Leaving it late means you reach the board still accelerating.
Prioritise hitting the board over squeezing out extra speed. A slightly slower jump that takes off correctly beats a fast one that fouls, because a foul scores nothing at all.
Watch the take-off line rather than your speed meter. Speed builds on its own from tapping; the timing is the part that needs your attention, so keep your eyes where the decision happens.
Take several attempts and keep your best. Distances vary a lot with small timing differences, so treating it as a series rather than a single jump is both more realistic and more fun.
