Kids Sudoku shrinks the classic puzzle to a four by four grid with four small boxes. Every row, every column and every box needs the numbers one to four, each used exactly once. That is the whole rule, and it is the same reasoning that full-size sudoku uses.
The small grid matters more than it looks. A nine by nine puzzle can overwhelm a child before they have grasped what they are actually doing, whereas four numbers in a four by four grid lets the logic click first. Once it does, the bigger version stops looking frightening.
Look for the row, column or box that already has three numbers. The fourth is forced, and finding those free answers first is how every sudoku unravels.
Check all three directions before placing. A number that fits its row may already sit in its column or its box, and getting into that habit now is what makes larger puzzles manageable later.
Say what you are ruling out. Talking through why a number cannot go somewhere turns guessing into reasoning, which is the actual skill the puzzle teaches.
Do not guess. Every puzzle here can be solved by working out what must be true, and a guess that happens to be right teaches nothing.
