Balance Scale shows you objects weighed against each other and asks which is heaviest. You never see the actual weights, only which side tips, so the answer has to be deduced from the comparisons.
The reasoning involved is called transitive inference: if A is heavier than B, and B is heavier than C, then A must be heavier than C without ever being weighed against it. It sounds obvious stated plainly, and it is measurably harder when the comparisons arrive out of order.
Build a chain rather than comparing pairs. Order the objects into a single line from heaviest to lightest as each comparison arrives, and the answer falls out of the chain automatically.
Start from the comparisons that share an object. Two weighings involving the same item link together immediately, whereas unrelated pairs tell you nothing until a bridge appears.
Watch for the object that never loses. If something is heavier in every comparison it appears in, it is almost certainly the answer without needing the full ordering.
Do not assume balanced means equal to everything. A balance between two objects only tells you about those two, and one of them may still be lighter than a third.
No, only which way the scales tip, so the answer must be reasoned out.
Concluding that A beats C because A beats B and B beats C, without comparing A and C directly.
They weigh the same as each other, which still leaves their relationship to the others to be worked out.
Yes, it is a clean introduction to logical chains and appears in reasoning assessments for that reason.
Nothing at all. The whole of Balance Scale is built into the page itself, which is why there is no loading bar and no waiting before you can play.
